Message from Director

Virendra Kumar Tewari Director, IIT Kharagpur

Safety and health of people at work is of paramount importance for sustainable business. Industries and service organizations across the globe are striving for its excellence. But unfortunately, the safety excellence journey is not well understood as it involves multi-disciplinary knowledgebase and continuous practices to evolve with. I am happy to share that IIT Kharagpur having a large number of experts and expertise cutting across multiple departments, schools, and centres has established the Centre of Excellence in Safety Engineering and Analytics (CoE-SEA) to cater the needs and requirements of the organizations (both public and private) across the globe. The aim of this centre is to disseminate the gamut of knowledge, information and good practices in safety engineering, management and analytics (SEMA) to the stakeholders so that they could implement the latest analytics-based safety management systems at the workplaces, an initiative ungently required to improve the flattened safety performance curve across the world. This will also help improving the awareness and caring mindset amongst the stakeholders for safety and health of people at work and in designing, implementing, practicing and monitoring hazard/risk control systems/programs effectively.

Message from Chairman, CoE-SEA

Prof. Jhareswar Maiti Chairman, CoE-SEA

Greetings from the Centre of Excellence in Safety Engineering and Analytics (CoE-SEA). I am indeed very excited and privileged to have been given this responsibility as the Founder Chairman. The CoE-SEA is one of the important centers of IIT Kharagpur under the Institute of Eminence (IoE) Scheme. It aims to become the world leader in education, research, outreach, and technology transfer in the areas of safety engineering, management and analytics, and the destination for the world reputed professors, researchers, scientists, technocrats, management consultants, industry giants, and socially relevant entrepreneurs. On behalf of the CoE, I request the industrial and service organizations (both private and public) to join the industry consortium of the CoE and become a proud member of it in achieving its mission and fulfilling its vision. The modes of help could be through partnership, sponsorship, or associateship. The guiding principle for deciding on the partnership, sponsorship, or associateship is based on the industry type & brand, and the extent of support (e.g., funding, expertise sharing, etc.). In return, the CoE supports the member companies in developing the knowledge base and services through research, consultancy, training, and other outreach programs in safety engineering, management and analytics (SEMA). The CoE also helps the MSMEs towards improving their competency in enhancing the safety and occupational health of employees at the workplaces.
